Pressure equipment inspection – ASME Authorised Inspectors for BPV
Apave in Asia is one of the main ASME AIA for the inspection of all pressure equipment.
Pressure equipment inspection involves evaluating vessels, boilers, and other components that operate under pressure to ensure their safety, integrity, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. This type of inspection is critical in preventing failures that could lead to hazardous situations, including explosions or leaks.
Pressure equipment inspection – National Board Repair and Inservice Inspection
This involves inspections for repairs, alterations and In-service inspection of BPV for items that are already in-service.
Pressure equipment training – for competency and renewal of local jurisdiction requirements
Fast, reliable local support

Your questions about ASME certification
-
What is ASME certification?
ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) is an international certification programme which attests that industrial products and equipment have been manufactured in compliance with strict quality, safety and reliability standards. It applies mainly to pressure vessels and boilers. Recognised throughout the world, it is an essential tool for industry players to demonstrate their professionalism, penetrate new international markets and strengthen their competitive edge. -
When can I obtain ASME certification?
You can apply for ASME certification at any time, whatever your objectives:
- When manufacturing new products subject to strict safety and quality standards: boilers, pressure vessels or other industrial equipment;
- As part of regulatory compliance;
- As part of an internationalisation project: ASME certification may be required by international players (customers, regulators, investors, etc.) to guarantee compliance with global standards;
- To check compliance with quality and safety standards following a change or upgrade to your manufacturing processes or production facilities;
- To reinforce your company's legitimacy, enhance your brand image and win the trust of stakeholders (customers, business partners, investors, etc.).
-
Who is ASME certification for?
ASME certification is aimed at all industries involved in the manufacture of pressure equipment.
Pressure equipment is essential in various sectors where handling, processing or containment of fluids or gases under pressure is necessary. Some important sectors include:
- - Energy: Power plants including thermal, nuclear and renewable energy facilities require boilers, turbines and piping systems to generate electricity
- - Oil & Gas: Refineries, petrochemical plants and offshore platforms rely on pressure vessels, reactors, and pipelines for processing and transporting crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products.
- - Chemical & Process Industries: Chemical plants, pharmaceutical facilities and manufacturing plants utilise pressure equipment such as reactors, distillation columns and storage tanks for chemical processing and production.
- - Food & Beverage: Food processing plants use pressure vessels and steam boilers for cooking, sterilization and pasteurization processes.
- - HVAC and Refrigeration: Air Conditioning systems, refrigeration units and heat exchangers in commercial and industrial buildings require pressure equipment to regulate temperature and humidity.
- - Aerospace and automotive: Aircraft and spacecraft propulsion systems, automotive engines and hydraulic systems incorporate pressure components for power generation and control.
- - Water and Wastewater treatment: Water treatment plants and desalination plants employ pressure vessels, pumps and piping systems for filtration, purification and distribution of water.
- - Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology: Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities use pressure vessels and reactors for synthesizing drugs and vaccines, while biotech companies utilise bioreactors for cell culture processes.
-
What types of products are eligible for ASME certification?
ASME certification can cover a wide range of industrial products, including:
- Boilers (steam, hot water, etc.);
- Pressure vessels (reactors, distillation columns, storage tanks, separators, accumulators, etc.);
- Piping and its components (vapour collectors, gas and oil pipes, etc.);
- HVAC equipment: heating, ventilation and air conditioning;
- Valves;
- Lifting equipment;
- All industrial equipment subject to compliance requirements;
- Storage tanks and vats;
- Water treatment equipment;
- ...

Why obtain ASME certification?
Obtaining ASME certification has many advantages for your company. As a mark of excellence, it sets you apart from the competition, reinforces your reputation and earns the trust of your customers. It's also a powerful lever for accessing new international markets, given the worldwide recognition of this certification. Last but not least, complying with ASME certification requirements reduces technical risks (accidents, failures, etc.) and ensures the quality, safety and compliance of your products with regulations and industry standards. -
How long is ASME certification valid?
Certificates of authorization to use the ASME certification mark are issued for a period of three years, except for the H (Cast Iron and/or Cast Aluminium) certificate in Section IV and the UM (Miniature Pressure Vessels) certificate in Section VIII, Div. 1, which are valid for a period of one year. -
How does the ASME certification process work?
Shops manufacturing pressure vessels require ASME accreditation and are subject to periodic audits by ASME authorized persons. Upon shop approval by ASME, the authorized shop gets into an agreement with the Authorized Inspection Agency (AIA) for engineering verification, inspection and stamping of the vessels manufactured at the facility, ensuring that the vessel meets ASME codes / standards for design, fabrication, and inspection. The most common ASME stamps include “U” stamp for unfired pressure vessels and “R” for repair and alterations.
